Quantitative Literacy

MATH 1050 College Algebra

For this ePortfolio project, it was a group effort where we could have groups of two to three individual people per group. My group consisted of three (counting myself). This project was split into three parts and each of us did one part per person. The first part was to find a home mortgage after thirty years, second part is finding out the value of your home when you're ready to sell it (the part I did), and the final part is discovering a mortgage after a period of fifteen years. Doing all thise really showed me what the world is like in considering buying a home.

Reflection

Everyday when driving on the roads or walking down the streets, we pass by many homes that are either occupied or up for sale. We all dream of owning a really nice house in our futures to provide and support a great environment for our families. Not much is thought about what is taken into consideration when wanting to buy a house such as interest, monthly payments, or sale price when ready to sell the house. But what about me? Have I ever taken into consideration all these things when I imagine having a house in my future? NO, not at all! I never have and thanks to thise project it opened my eyes enormously.

Through the years I've never taken into consideration all the sorts of things that are needed and essential to figuring out how much to pay per month on a home, how much to earn in order to make a full on time payment for the house, and calculations for the price to sell the home at when ready to move somewhere else. This project showed me for one thing that when purchasing a house is I need to think about all the numbers and such that affect the home over the course that it's occupied. Secondly was that over the course of the years, interest goes up or down or changes all the time due to how the economy is doing which helps to calculate the payment due each month. Lastly is what aspects are used in order to discover how much a house can be sold at when I'm ready to move to another part of the state or another U.S. state. Thanks to this project I was opened up to a whole new perspective which is the ways of buying a home which I'll never forget when it comes time for me to find a house of my own and live in it for the rest of my entire life.
